Quite a number of Mountain Bluebirds visited today as I had my morning coffee. Not sure how much longer they will be hanging around; if the nice weather keeps up we may get to enjoy them for a while yet.

Loon Rescue

My friend Mike Ritcey received a phone call from the animal hospital at the Kamloops Wildlife Park asking if he could go out and have a look for a loon at Lac le Jeune. It had been reported to them that the loon had become entangled in fishing line and was not doing that well. Mike needed someone with a boat so he called me and off we went. We quickly located the loon on the shore and she (best guess) was quite entangled, obviously not able to fish or eat. We netted her and into a dog crate for the trip to the animal hospital. At this point Mike, who is a SAR dog handler,was called for a search and was off to the airport with his dog. I took the loon to the hospital where the fishing line was removed and a tube feeding was administered. A blood test revealed the loon to be somewhat anemic from not eating but a determination was made that she would do better back at the lake than in the hospital. New Website

We have changed our hosting provider, twice actually. The web address is still the same, www.crazyaboutloons.com but it will now take you to a page on our Studio Five-O Photography site. It will take me a little bit to get it back up to speed as we are very busy. I am pretty confident we will be fully booked again so I am not as motivated as I should be for sitting inside on summer days working on web pages. If you are a potential new customer and you are looking for more information than is currently available at our site please contact me. Contact form on the site. Just to make this post a little less boring, here is a Killdeer and chick that hatched on our driveway.

There are birds to photograph here in the winter; eagles, hawks and owls are very popular with the local photographers. As well we have Tundra and Trumpeter swans that spend the winter with us. I have been using this time to try and catch up on some work on the website and organizing our new cowboy and western workshops. Preparing for the cowboy workshops could have an interesting impact on our birding tours. I have secured exclusive access to a very large cattle ranch. The ranch is thousands of acres and opens up lots of great birding opportunities for us. Of course much of it is remote but we have now added a six- seaterYamaha Viking to our fleet. This will allow me to get guests into remote area where no one else has access.I can't wait until spring so I can get out searching and scouting. We will spend most of our time out on the water but this should lead to some exciting opportunities.
